OMG. I am running another marathon in less than 3 weeks!!! A quick reminder about the meet up I am hosting with Jessie in NYC:
This was another solid week. I’m starting to see everything come together which is super encouraging! I had a few easy runs, a barre class, speedwork, and a 14 mile long run.
For my speedwork, I did a tempo run at around a 9:00 pace. I haven’t been posting much about pace on here, but I’ve been very encouraged by what I’ve been seeing in training, ESPECIALLY since it is SO hot here still!! I mean, it has been very much still summer temps and humidity. My long run on Sunday was slightly cooler at 69 degrees. I just keep telling myself it’s making me stronger and prepared in case it is warm on race day.
To be honest, I’ve been focusing SO HARD on my fundraising the past couple of weeks and have been putting most of my energy there. Wednesday of this week is my neighborhood fundraising event, a wine tasting! I have been doing a lot of DIY crafts to make it a fun event with some nice little touches.
I’ve made wine cork magnets, which I used to secure the invites onto the mailboxes in my neighborhood:
I also made a wine cork wreath as a prize at the tasting:
And I made these centerpieces for the tables:
I got a lot of questions on how I made these from my friends, so I’ll lay it out here in case anyone is interested.
- Wine bottles were from my neighbor, I just soaked off the labels which was honestly the biggest pain in the butt!
- The lights are battery operated LED lights. I got them off Amazon for really inexpensive, here.
- Everything else is from the dollar store!! The bottom are white rocks (2 packages from the dollar store did all of these). Ribbon on the top and flowers. Seriously so easy and they look SO PRETTY in the dark! Of course I used the Fred’s Team colors.
I just want to say that I have spent nearly every night crafting and all weekend too, and I have mad respect to anyone who DIY plans a big event, like a wedding. I am a very impatient person and really don’t like dealing with details, so this really stretched me! But the nice thing is that the centerpieces can be easily used for other things…I plan to use them on our back patio or for other parties we throw in the future. The event is looking like it will bring in some money, so I am excited about that!
In addition to finalizing this event, I’ve been sending a ton of messages out begging for donations. It’s a lot of effort but it is paying off! As of tonight, I only have $1750 left to raise to hit my revised stretch goal of $15,000. If you have been thinking of making a donation, please click here and make your donation this week to help ease some of my stress!
This week I have my final 21 miler and some work travel. I will have lots of photos from my event to share on next week’s recap, so come back by then.
