Race Week Recap

Happy Sunday everyone! I’m going to keep this week’s recap fairly short. I have a special announcement tomorrow (Monday), so be sure you stop back by!

Training

It was race week, so I tried to relax and take it easy. I probably shouldn’t have taken Barre, but I’ve been loving the classes and I have been trying to go once a week. I didn’t want to get out of the habit because I’ve seen such a difference.  Here’s how the week looked:

Monday: Rest

Tuesday: Barre class

Wednesday: 3 miles at 10:39 pace

Thursday: PT exercises (10 mins), lots of stretching and rolling

Friday: rest, travel to Savannah. Expo and dinner out!

Saturday: Savanah Women’s Half Marathon: 2:08:50 (PR!). Full recap coming Wednesday.

Sunday: Rest, travel back to Atlanta

Fundraising

I hustled really hard this week. I wanted to hit my halfway mark by the end of the weekend.  I’m happy to report that I did! To date, I’ve raised $5,020 for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center through Fred’s Team.

I focused mostly on emails, as well as a big social media push which included my first Facebook live posts. You can check them out below.  I thought it would be awkward but I really enjoyed doing them!

I can’t end this post without a special shout out to my friend Angie (AKA Christina’s sister 🙂 ). She helped me fundraise this week, as she was running the half this weekend as well.  One of her close friends has stage 4 cervical cancer, so she ran in her honor.  Not only did she collect $432 in donations which she put towards my fundraising….but she also hit also monster PR! She shaved 9 minutes off her half time and got that coveted sub-2, finishing in 1:59:22. Angie has been training so hard, and I’m so proud of her and thankful for her support.  I’m leaving the weekend with a happy heart (and sore legs!!)

  1. Congrats on all of your fundraising success! You could probably write a great “How To Guide” to help other runners with their fundraising goals! Also congrats on your new PR!
    I’m taking my first Barre class this week and I’m very excited!

    • Thanks Kim! Funny you say that, I am working on a series right now about fundraising – the first post will go live on 4/21. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear how you like barre!!

    • Thanks so much Jessie! I’d definitely recommend this race….but do you even do half marathons? Lol. I only see you run fulls! You should come run the Georgia Marathon in the spring!

    I love barre class too and I need to squeeze in a class this week – I feel so much stronger when I do it regularly!

    • Thank you! Yes, I’ve been going weekly for a month and I have seen a difference. Hoping to keep that up!

    • Thanks for stopping by! This training cycle wasn’t really full of hard work to be honest, lol. I did gain a lot of fitness last fall during marathon training though, so I’m glad I was able to maintain it!
