Race Weekend in Chicago

Ok, so I realize this is a bit backwards since I already posted about my race here, but I had SO MUCH FUN this past weekend, I wanted to be sure to share the weekend with you all!

I flew into Chicago Friday morning and met Christina, Brooke, and Cyanne at the expo.  I loved that Rock n Roll had a FREE luggage check, so I didn’t have to bother taking a cab to the hotel, first.  We got our bibs and tees, and then we were ready to shop.

The expo was really great, maybe one of the most fun ones I’ve been to.  We picked up some merchandise, then checked out the exhibitors.  My favorite booth had to be the Sargento Cheese booth, where we got coolers for cheese-sticks!

Next, we walked by a booth that had Meb. Christina and I got a picture with him, and he signed our race bibs for good luck…how cool is that?!

Thumbs up with Meb!

We got lots of samples of stuff and I even won some rice at the Minute Rice booth. We had fun taking funny pictures, too.  All in all, a great expo.

We headed back to the hotel and then grabbed a late lunch/early dinner before heading to get foot massages at Yamato. I really enjoy getting the hour long foot massages here in Atlanta, and this was no different.  It was so relaxing and a great way to unwind after a long day of travel.

You know what else is relaxing? Shopping.  We then went to check out the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, where I got some new things for my new job and Cyanne got a shiny pair of shoes that I’m super jealous of.  Yes, I’m still in major #treatyoself mode!

We then went back to the hotel to relax and get ready for the 5k the next morning.

We got up early, ate, and headed down to the start of the 5k.  I ran into my friend Renee who I met through yoga. She and I were actually on the same flight down, but I was happy to see her for the 5k.

The start area was smaller than it should have been, we literally couldn’t even get into our corral because it was so small! We had to wait until the race started and the corrals started moving up.  We weren’t planning to do this race hard, it was just supposed to be an easy shakeout run, which is what we did.  The 5k ran along the lakefront trail, which got pretty narrow at some points.  With a lot of walkers, this got a little frustrating.  It was also very hot…a nice little preview of what was to come. We wanted to be sure we had fun, so we took it easy and made sure to stop for a picture.

The 5k was over pretty quickly…and we got our shiny medals!

We then headed back to the hotel for a quick shower, then met up at Cyanne’s apartment for mimosas on her balcony to celebrate….everything!

This was quickly followed by food and an insta-meetup at The Protein Bar, and of course…Do-Rite donuts!

We then decided that was enough walking for the day and laid around at the pool for the rest of the afternoon.  We had dinner at Joe’s where I had a delicious filet and mashed potatoes.  Then, it was early to bed for the race.

After the race, we headed over to Rockit Bar and Grill for Burgers and Beverages.  I had a fantastic burger and cider and was in a comfortable food coma.  I had some time to kill before the airport, so I treated my feet to a pedicure before heading back to Atlanta.

Cheers to a great weekend!

The weekend was full of so many fun activities, but really, the special part was spending  the time with these ladies.  It was an awesome time bonding and just being together in an amazing city. I’m so looking forward to our next racecation!
