Richmond Marathon Training – Week 9

Wow what a busy week! Training was a little light this week because I had a half marathon at the end of it, so we treated it as a fall-back week of sorts for mileage.  This will be a short recap, because I am POOPED! Here’s how the week went:

Monday: 7 miles @ 11:17 pace.  Since it was a holiday, I slept in a bit and headed out to the trail around 8am.  It was only 68 degrees, so it was a nice treat! I ran into Carrie on the trail and we got to share some miles together.  A great start to the day!

Tuesday: 4 miles @ 10:31 pace. I did a one mile warmup, then 5 x 45 second sprints with 2:00 recovery jog in the middle miles.  It was pretty cool out (only around 64 degrees!) and this run felt so good!

Wednesday: 30 minutes stationary bike + glute/hip exercises.  I took this one easy, and had a sports massage after work!

Thursday: Rest day! I got my hair done after work.  We went a little lighter and I love the new color!

Friday: Another rest day.  Drove down to Peachtree city to pick up our bibs and check into our hotel for the Diva’s Half Marathon!

Saturday: Diva’s Half Marathon.  I’ll post a full recap later this week (promise!), but there were definitely some lessons coming out of this half.  It was a lot hotter than I was anticipating and I didn’t listen to my body as I should have.  I managed to pull myself out of a tough place in the middle miles and finished in 2:18, which I’m really proud of!

Still had some energy to take a jumping pic!

We spent the rest of the day resting and watching movies, which was awesome.

Sunday: Rest Day.  We went out to breakfast and then got foot massages, and I capped off the day with food prep and football! (The Falcons…ugh.  Looks like it’s going to be another long year….)

Total miles for the week: 24

This week is back to the grind.  I’m not gonna lie, I’m tired.  Work has been very busy and having company two weekends in a row is great, but exhausting.  I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend coming up!

Don’t forget to link up with me and Jessie (who just BQ’d this past weekend!!!)

  1. Great job on pushing through in the heat on Saturday! I’m hoping we get some more cool temps this week!

I definitely know how you feel when you mentioned you are tired. This was a cutback week for me as well and I really appreciated it because my energy was totally zapped at the end of last week!

  2. Congratulations on the half! Great time!

I also love the new hair cut. I have an appointment on Friday – long overdue!

  3. Your hair looks fantastic! So cute how she styled it too- how big of a curling iron did she use? I’m always trying to figure out how to recreate my stylist curling and it never works quite right 🙂

Foot massages and breakfast sounds like a pretty amazing Sunday!

Congrats on the half and for pushing through when it got tough. Good practice for the marathon!

    • Thanks Jessie. She actually used a 1″ flat iron and I have been desperately trying to recreate it all week. I’ve gotten close, but have had to watch quite a few YouTube videos to get there. I feel like an awkward 15 year old again!

  4. Hi! It’s my first time coming here but Jessie from the right fits told me about you (and the link up). Great job on the half marathon 🙂 I cannot wait to read about it.
And your hair color looks gorgeous. I always tell my daughters how I wished I had their hair (brown with some golden streaks in the sun- all natural!) cuz my hair is super dark black….
Anyway, congratulations on your half marathon and hope your training weeks are enjoyable! When is your marathon?
