I’m having a hard time figuring out the words to describe this year, because it truly has been one of the best of my life. I originally wanted to share a picture from each month of the year, but I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. I hit a ton of big milestones this year in my professional, personal, and fitness life….all of which have led me to the edge of 2016, wondering how the hell I got here and how 2016 could possibly top it.
Here are 10 of the awesome things that happened this year:
I trained for and ran my first marathon!
I turned the big 3-0!
I conquered a big fear and learned how to swim!
I walked across the stage at Emory University and celebrated completing my MBA!
I spent time exploring a lot of new-to-me cities!
I got a new job which I love more and more every day!
I ran a half marathon as a training run by feel, and PRd in the process!
Brian and I celebrated 11 years together!
I ran my second marathon, and PRd by 28 minutes!
WE BOUGHT OUR FIRST HOUSE!!!
Ok, that last one is may be news to some reading this. We closed on our house this morning, and I couldn’t be more excited. We actually got the news that our offer was accepted the night before the Richmond Marathon…which most certainly impacted my performance (in a positive way). We’ve been looking for the right home since August, and this was the third house we put an offer in on. The process was exhausting and emotionally draining, and I’m so glad it’s behind us.
The house is a two story, 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath single family home in Smyrna (a suburb west of Atlanta). It’s in great condition and in a great neighborhood…which is about a quarter mile from one of my favorite running trails! We have a little work to do over the next few weeks before we can move in, so the next month will be hectic as we pack up and get settled. I’m excited to have space, a big kitchen, and a backyard for Skipper. We will also have lots of projects to keep us busy on the weekends, which I’ll occasionally share with you all if one turns out especially well. To say that we are excited is an understatement!
Like I said…2015 has been phenomenal. It was this year that YEARS of really hard work in my personal and professional life finally paid off. Running my first marathon was the perfect metaphor for what rewards I have reaped this year with the right plan, dedication, and support. If I could sum it up with one phrase, it’d be this:
Dream big & work hard, and you can achieve whatever you set your mind to.
